The Sav Mart supermarket on El Camino in Santa Clara closed without my noticing until this week. I have mixed feelings. Their store murals indicated they had quite a history - but that's the company that bought the Albertson's stores, closed half of them and utterly mucked up the rest.
Also they've started demolition on the Kohl's at the Lawrence Expressway, that was once KMart. You can see wreckage and sky through the doors. The green netting fencing off the site was graffitied on its first day. That's to be another huge condo development - the local homeowners (it's in Santa Clara, where they never saw a developer they wouldn't give the keys to the city, but abuts a tract of single-family houses in Sunnyvale) fought the project for years.
