Spent most of the day in San Francisco: went to the library and then on an excursion to the Haight that became altogether too long. After enduring bad congestion on the Embarcadero, I then climbed into a seat on an express Caltrain that should have got me home before 8:00. Unfortunately it came to a halt before the first station stop - someone acting suspiciously on the platform, police investigating ... 15 minutes later we set off again, we're almost at my station and I'm standing by the exit door - we come to a stop again. Someone's been hit by a train, possibly ours, they've called the police ... over an hour later, we finally move the last few yards. I was so tempted to activate the emergency door opener and walk home. One youth kept punching the regular door opener buttons, but they require a key to work; I said to someone else that if he discovered the emergency box, I'd follow him out. Sadly, he didn't.
