Thanks for all the sympathy. I'd better start writing here again or my mother will get worried.

They celebrated September 11 by pulling down the 2 little houses. Clouds of dust - with a guy playing a hose on it ineffectually in the drought - and a family standing on the sidewalk watching the heavy machinery. At least they had a fence around the huge oak tree.
