Still no rain, but the grass in the backyard is beginning to recover anyway because it's cooler. Of course, one section is also starting to get sprinkled with leaves.

House Hell-Hound managed to find the coffin for their front yard, and cleared away their black labrador's stuffed hedgehogs and ladybird, so going into the holiday that street-corner looked adequately spooky. Next door and at various other houses, there was so much fake cobwebbing that I'm surprised the kids could get to the front door. The little house around the corner from us set up a hay bale with a ghost behind it and a sign inviting kids to have their photos taken.

Meanwhile I came down a different street on my way home and noted a dog sitting calmly in the fenced-off play section of someone's front yard - in a papasan chair.
The housemate stayed late at work rather than feed trick-or-treaters, so I don't know how many came down our street. There were fewer candy wrappers on the sidewalk next morning than in previous years; and one solitary wrapped lollipop that someone had lost in the darkness.

The big old gingko trees are just starting to go yellow.
