One of the seemingly endless series of workmen ripping up either this street, the intersecting street, the sidewalks of this street, the sidewalks of the intersecting street ... left behind a 3/4-full green plastic trashcan, without the bar the trash collectors use to hoist them in the air. Over the months, people have added to its contents: bags of dog poop, banana skins, fast-food trash that gets left in the street ... The gardening crew for the corner house tried putting it out for collection but it wasn't emptied, just moved one tree further from the corner. A few weeks ago, someone left an old sandy-colored pair of sneakers in the gutter, and someone else slung them in there. This morning's addition was a copy of Fifty Shades Darker.
