I was sitting in the bus to San Jose, reading the second to last essay in Paul Goldberger's Building Up and Tearing Down, on how cellphones have undermined the sense of place. After reading several of the previous essays (it's a long, slow bus ride) and visualizing the addresses of the buildings in Manhattan . . . then I looked up and Hank Coca's Downtown Furniture has a photo of Times Square covering its door and the windows on either side.
