More anarchy last night. It was very quiet in the store, although an emaciated, presumably homeless guy shuffled in and out a couple of times, looking hopeless. One of my problem customers was there most of the night but was no trouble at all. However, I kept hearing thuds and glass-breaking sounds from the parking lot. And when I emerged into a quiet Sunday morning, I found someone had turned over the concrete bench at the bus stop and slung it into the traffic lane. And the inside of the trash can too, for good measure. So I reassembled the trash can (its lid was hopelessly smashed, but I found the plastic bag, its contents still in there, and put it back inside), then dragged the upside-down bench onto the sidewalk. I was starting to turn it and thinking about how to get it back rightside-up when two police cars pulled up on the other side of El Camino and I was instructed to leave it be. Apparently I had tidied up a crime scene that was yet to be photographed. Oops.
