I was relieved to learn last week that Hank the Tank, the 500 lb globular bear who instead of hibernating continued gorging on food people in South Lake Tahoe left in their cabins, won't be euthanized because DNA evidence shows he wasn't solely responsible for the damage. It's entirely the local authorities' fault, not Hank's: South Lake Tahoe doesn't require "bear boxes", and the HOA for the particular gated community, Tahoe Keys, banned them for "aesthetic reasons" until recently.
